B.E.S.T. Standards for Mathematics

The Florida Department of Education is excited to announce Florida’s Benchmarks for Excellent Student Thinking (B.E.S.T.) Standards for Mathematics were adopted by the State Board of Education on February 12, 2020. Additionally, on September 23, 2020 the SBE approved the amendment to Rule 6A-1.09412, Course Requirements – Grades K-12 Basic and Adult Secondary Programs. This amendment adopted ELA, mathematics and non-ELA and non-mathematics subject area course descriptions that include the B.E.S.T. Standards for English Language Arts and Mathematics. The B.E.S.T. Standards for Mathematics will be fully implemented in the 2022-2023 school year along with aligned instructional materials and statewide assessments. Virtual Standards Institute, July and September 2020

B.E.S.T. Mathematics District Lead Professional Development

The Department is pleased to announce the next phase of implementation training specific to the B.E.S.T. Standards for Mathematics. There are three scheduled locations, as described below, in which districts will be able to attend. For the guaranteed slots, registration is open until April 9 at 5:00 pm EST at https://www.math.floridasteamposium.org/. Starting April 10 at 9:00 am EST until May 30, registration will be open on a first-come, first-serve basis. Participants of this event can expect to 1) increase their knowledge of the B.E.S.T. Standards for Mathematics, 2) gain resources for their district to implement the B.E.S.T. Standards for Mathematics with fidelity, 3) actively engage in student-centered instruction, and 4) take part in a community of learners and leaders with their peer districts.

Current Mathematics Florida Standards (MAFS)

The Mathematics Florida Standards were approved by the Florida State Board of Education on February 18, 2014. These standards were fully implemented in the 2014-15 school year and thereafter. The current Mathematics Florida Standards will continue to be used for instructional and assessment purposes through the end of the 2021-2022 school year.
