State Board of Education Members
Daniel P. Foganholi Sr. is a first-generation American, born in Boston, Massachusetts, to Brazilian immigrants. He lives in Coral Springs, Florida, with his wife, Alyssa, and their children.
In May 2022, Daniel was appointed by Governor Ron DeSantis to the Broward County School Board, representing District 5, and was later reappointed to represent District 1 in December 2022. During his tenure, Daniel and his fellow board members helped lead Broward County Public Schools to achieve an “A” rating after a decade of maintaining a “B” rating.
In 2023, Daniel was appointed to the Marjory Stoneman Douglas Public Safety Commission, where he has focused on strengthening school safety across Florida. He was also appointed to the Florida Charter School Commission, reviewing applications for new charter schools throughout the state.
As a school board member, Daniel spearheaded initiatives to reinstate the National Day of Prayer, strengthen school security measures, support anti-bullying programs, and expand student engagement opportunities through Esports. He also served on the Early Learning Coalition of Broward County, working to support access to quality early childhood education.
A product of diverse educational environments, Daniel has experienced homeschooling as well as public, private, and charter education. He holds a bachelor’s degree in business and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) and has earned professional certificates from Florida Atlantic University, Yale University, the University of London, Northwestern University, and the University of Notre Dame.
Professionally, Daniel is a licensed Insurance Broker, helping individuals, families, and businesses navigate health and life insurance options. His professional background includes extensive experience in sales, business development, strategic partnerships, and community engagement.
Daniel actively volunteers at his church, coaches children’s soccer, and serves as Director of Legislative Affairs for the New Generations Children’s Ministry. He is also involved with BRAUSA, advocating for and strengthening the voice of the Brazilian-American community in South Florida.
His wife, Alyssa, shares his commitment to public service and serves as a board member of the Children’s Services Council of Broward County.
