Title IV Part A, Student Support & Academic Enrichment (SSAE)
What is Student Support and Academic Enrichment?
The purpose of Title IV, Part A is to improve student academic achievement by increasing the capacity of state and local educational agencies in the following areas by:
- Providing all students with access to a well-rounded education,
- Improving school conditions for student learning to support safe and healthy students, and
- Improving the use of technology in order to advance digital literacy of all students.
Florida Department of Education's (FDOE) Role
- FDOE manages the federal mandated funds, approves sub-grants to LEAs, and supports the services and activities developed with the allocated funds.
- FDOE is responsible for ensuring equitable access to an excellent education for all Florida students through the Title IV-Part A program.
- FDOE awards sub-grants to school districts by formula in the same proportion to their prior year districts Title I, Part A allocations.
- FDOE is responsible for developing the application that school districts must submit to receive their Title IV-Part A funds.
School Districts Requirements
- School Districts must complete and submit the FDOE Request for Application (RFA) to receive their program allocation from FDOE.
- Districts must provide equitable services for private schools.
- Districts receiving $30,000 or More MUST:
- Conduct a comprehensive needs assessment that includes, at a minimum, a focus on three content areas:
- Well-Rounded Educational Opportunities;
- Safe and Healthy Conditions; and
- Effective Use of Technology
- Conduct a comprehensive needs assessment that includes, at a minimum, a focus on three content areas:
- Districts receiving less than $30,000:
- Comprehensive needs assessment is not required
- Only required to focus on one of the component areas: well-rounded, safe and healthy, and technology.
