State Apprenticeship Advisory Council

State Apprenticeship Advisory Council

Welcome to the State Apprenticeship Advisory Council (SAAC) webpage. The purpose of the SAAC is to provide input to the Florida Department of Education (FDOE) on matters relating to Registered Apprenticeship. As Chancellor Mack’s designee, I will be facilitating the meetings. Any recommendations resulting from SAAC discussions will be forwarded to the Commissioner. I encourage members of the community who would like to communicate relevant ideas, concerns, or questions to do so. In addition, a portion of each meeting will be set aside for public input. However, please note that any items to be included on the agenda may only be introduced by a SAAC member. My contact information and that of each of the SAAC members may be found by clicking on “members” on the webpage menu. The SAAC is a welcome opportunity for those involved with Registered Apprenticeship matters to have an open forum to review and analyze issues that impact programs and operations. The FDOE staff and I look forward to working with SAAC members to assure the Florida Registered Apprenticeship System is a success.

Section 446.045, F.S. states that the State Apprenticeship Advisory Council to be composed of 10 voting members appointed by the Governor and two ex officio nonvoting members. The Governor shall appoint to the SAAC four members representing employee organizations and four members representing employer organizations. Each member shall represent industries that have registered apprenticeship programs. The Governor shall also appoint two public members who are knowledgeable about registered apprenticeship and apprenticeable occupations. Members shall be appointed for 4-year staggered terms.
