The Facts Your Future - Hope for Healing Florida

“The Facts. Your Future.” is a new multi-faceted campaign to heighten youth understanding of the dangerous effects of substance abuse. Through assemblies, evidence-based strategies, and FAQs, “The Facts. Your Future.” campaign provides Florida’s youth with the facts surrounding substance abuse and how it negatively impacts their lives. The goal is to provide students with factual information so that they can make well-informed, educated decisions about their future.

Students in middle and high school in middle and high school can participate in “The Facts. Your Future.” video competition with more than $30,000 in cash prizes awarded to the winners and their schools.

Message to Teachers and Parents: Students should approach their video submissions as their chance to find a message that would resonate with their peers.

Suggested Strategy: If you and your friends – and teens throughout Florida and across the nation – could watch ONE video that would make you think twice about making life-changing decisions, what would that video be? Grab your camera, recruit your friends, and create a 60-90 second original video aimed to change lives!

Check out the Prizes:

  • 1st - A top prize of $5,000 will be awarded to the winning student(s) in both middle and high school categories, with matching cash awards going to their respective schools.
  • 2nd - $2,500 to the student(s) in both middle and high school categories, with matching cash awards going to their respective schools.
  • 3rd - $1,000, to the student(s) in both middle and high school categories, with matching cash awards going to their respective schools.

It’s simple! Just Follow These Steps!

  1. Be Creative! Use your imagination to create a video that speaks to the dangers of substance abuse and be sure to include “The Facts. Your Future.” as part of the competition.
  2. Submit your video, as a YouTube link by 8:00PM EST on April 27, 2020. Please make sure that you title your video. “The Facts. Your Future. – [Your Title]” and that your video is set as unlisted on YouTube.
  3. Email your video to TheFactsYourFuture@fldoe.org. Don’t forget to include the signed consent form, that includes the contest rules. Failure to include this form could mean disqualification!

School Assemblies

VIP and special guests will be hosting school assemblies throughout the state to bring awareness to the increase in substance abuse. These assemblies will provide a unique perspective to reach youth and raise awareness about the dangers of substance abuse. The campaign will also provide a toolkit so schools can create their own assembly centered around substance abuse prevention and can be used to meet the mental health and substance abuse requirement to promote a safe and healthy lifestyle.
