 Entrepreneurship Florida

Entrepreneurship Florida! (EF!) is a youth entrepreneurship program sponsored by Governor Bush’s Office of Urban Opportunity, the Florida Department of Education, and the Florida Education Foundation. The program is placed in schools that serve those communities that have been awarded Front Porch status by the Governor. The purpose of the program is to provide high-risk, low-income, minority high school students the opportunity to create and run successful businesses in their communities by introducing them to the world of business. The program presently operates in six Florida high schools within the Front Porch Communities and has impacted approximately 1100 students during the past four years. Extensive training, encouragement, and financial assistance are provided to the students through this program. Entrepreneurship Florida! uses instructional materials provided by the National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE).

NFTE

The National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship, (NFTE, pronounced “nifty”) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit foundation with a mission to bring the power of entrepreneurship and economic self-sufficiency to youth around the world. It is an international organization that has reached over 96,000 young people and trained more than 3,200 teachers and youth workers in 44 states and 16 countries.

Through entrepreneurship education, NFTE teaches low-income young people, aged 11-18 to become economically productive members of society by improving their academic, business, technology, and life skills.

Established in 1987, NFTE’s strategy for achieving its mission is to partner with schools, universities, and community-based organizations, create innovative, experiential curricula, train and support teachers and youth workers, and provide supportive alumni services. Among NFTE's goals is that each of its young people benefit from using technology in order to participate fully in today’s economy.
