Title: Seeing Alternatives and Valuing Education – A
Farmworker Youth Interstate Demonstration Project
Purpose: To reduce incidence of child labor in the fields by identifying farmworker youth who are in-school and at-risk of dropping out of school or who have dropped out of school and provide them with alternative work experience and educational opportunities. Target Audience: Eligible migrant and seasonal farmworker youth between the ages of 12-17. Authorization: Discretionary legislative funding for farmworker youth interstate demonstration projects. Funding comes through the United States Department of Labor, Employment and Training Administration, Division of Seasonal Farmworker Programs. Grant Amount: PY’2001 (July 1, 2001 – June 30, 2002) is $428,741 Average Project Amount: $50,000 Eligible Applicants: Approved school districts as identified in the grant application.
