Career and Professional Education Act (SB1232)
The Florida Career and Professional Education Act was created to provide a statewide planning partnership between business and education communities, to expand and retain high-value industry, and sustain a vibrant state economy.

OPPAGA Report: Career Academy Students Perform Better Than Other Students During High School; Later Outcomes Vary.
Florida’s career academy students out-perform similar students while in high school, but exhibit few differences after graduation. During high school, Florida career academy students are less likely to be chronically absent, more likely to score at grade level on math and reading FCAT tests, and more likely to graduate than similar students who did not attend career academies.

Career Clusters The U.S. Department of Education has identified 16 career clusters representing career opportunities for the 21st century economy. The clusters frame student opportunities and identify pathways from secondary school to two-and four-year colleges, graduate school and the workplace.

Career Academy Support Network (CASN)
Based in the Graduate School of Education, University of California, Berkeley, the CASN website contains valuable links to resources and downloadable guides, handbooks, and useful forms for administrators, all available free of charge.

National Career Academy Coalition (NCAC)
Founded in 1996 as a grassroots non-profit membership organization, they sponsor an annual national academy conference.

National Academy Foundation (NAF)
With the largest network of academies nationally (over 500), the National Academy Foundation (NAF) is a nonprofit organization supporting member career academies specializing in the areas of finance, travel & tourism, and information technology.

National High School Alliance (NHSA)
The partnership of over 40 organizations share a common commitment to promoting the excellence, equity, and development of high school-age youth. Their studies identify what it takes to produce high academic achievement, close the achievement gap, and promote civic and personal growth among all high-school-age youth.

Career Academy National Standards of Practice
Developed by an informal consortium of career academy organizations, the National Standards of Practice are framed around ten key elements of successful implementation, drawn from many years of research and experience from all parts of the country.

Smaller Learning Communities
The Smaller Learning Communities Program is a $142 million competitive federal grant program to plan, implement or expand smaller learning communities in large high schools. In general, the program targets districts with schools enrolling 1,000 or more students.

Talent Development High Schools/Center for Research on Education of Students Placed at Risk (CRESPAR)
CRESPAR was established in 1994 as a collaboration between Johns Hopkins University and Howard University to conduct research, development, evaluation, and dissemination of replicable strategies designed to transform schooling for students who are placed at risk due to inadequate institutional responses to such factors as poverty, ethnic minority status, and non-English speaking home background.

Continuous Improvement Model
The Continuous Improvement Model and the Eight-Step Process was shared at the 2005 DOE/FAISA/FASA Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment Leadership Conference, January, 2005.

Statewide Targeted Occupations Lists of the Workforce Estimating Conference
Workforce Florida, Inc. was created by Governor Bush and the Florida Legislature to oversee and monitor the state’s workforce policies and programs. The site contains the annual targeted occupations lists by the 24 workforce regions.

Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE)
The Association for Career and Technical Education is the largest national education association dedicated to the advancement of education that prepares youth and adults for careers.

Southern Regional Education Board/High Schools That Work (SREB/HSTW)
This organization provides information on the latest educational reports and publications related to middle and high school education. Florida is one of the 16 member states of SREB.

Manpower Demonstration Research Corporation (MDRC)
This research organization has been studying the impact of career academies for well over 14 years and they have conducted some of the most important studies on small learning communities.
