To assist you in your career transition, the Florida Troops to Teachers office can provide you with an unofficial Certification Profile, outlining the specific requirements you will need to complete in order to qualify for the Florida Temporary Certificate and/or the Florida Professional Certificate. There is an advantage to establishing eligibility in a subject area that is in high demand. The Certification Profile is provided as a tool to assist you in determining which area(s) you may want to apply for prior to submitting your formal application to the Bureau of Educator Certification and paying the required fee(s). Our goal is to furnish you with all the information needed, so you can choose the best option for your career transition. Note that the Certification Profile does not guarantee your eligibility for meeting Florida’s certification requirements. An official Statement of Status of Eligibility, which specifies whether or not you have met the requirements for a Florida certificate, is issued exclusively by the Florida Bureau of Educator Certification.

To receive your Certification Profile and additional information to assist you in your career change, you may forward unofficial copies of your college transcripts, including ACE transcripts for military personnel, to the Florida Troops to Teachers office by mail, fax or e-mail.

In addition to the Certification Profile, the Florida Troops to Teachers office will provide information on obtaining study guides for the Florida Teacher Certification Exams (FTCE) and contact information on certification programs, including bachelor’s, master’s, and post-baccalaureate programs that are especially suited to career changers. For individuals who have not completed a bachelor’s degree but have completed a significant number of college credits (including military credits), the Troops to Teachers office also provides information on institutions that work well for individuals who are military or former military and are trying to obtain an initial bachelor’s degree.

The Florida office also conducts Second Career in Teaching Seminars (PDF, 25KB) on military installations in Florida. These seminars provide information on the Troops to Teachers program, options for completing certification requirements, and other considerations regarding your career transition.
