Florida Services

The Florida Troops to Teachers mission is to help you gain an understanding of the certification requirements, options for completing Florida certification, certification and employment application processes, and understanding how to better enhance your employment potential. Below is a list of services that the Florida Troops to Teachers office provides.

Teaching Skills ProfilerTM

Applied Simulation Corporation in collaboration with the Florida Troops to Teachers program office is providing Troops to Teachers participants access to the Teaching Skills ProfilerTM . The Teaching Skills ProfilerTM is a web based needs assessment tool for classroom management skills. The assessment results provide each participant a profile of five individual skill areas critical to the management of the classroom. These skill areas are:
  • Providing Effective Feedback
  • Behavior Management
  • Tailoring Classroom Instruction
  • Fostering Learning to Learn Skills
  • Facilitating Group Learning Processes

Specific output results include performance enhancement suggestions for each skill area, and access to a listing of the key concepts that underlie each of the classroom management skill areas.

Assessment results for individuals considering teaching as a career can provided guidance as to which are a candidate’s stronger and weaker teaching skills. This information can be used to guide potential training needs and career decisions.

To use the Teaching Skills ProfilerTM , participants must obtain an access code and registration instructions at http://data.fldoe.org/troopstoteachers/,. The access code request process requires that you provide only basic information concerning your military service and any military instructor training you completed. The Teaching Skills ProfilerTM assessment requires approximately 90 minutes to complete, but you do not have to complete it in one session.

If you have any questions concerning this process, contact the Florida Troops to Teachers office at 888-358-7667 or .

Seminars

The Florida office conducts Teaching as a Second Career Seminars (PDF, 28KB) on military installations in Florida. These seminars provide information on the Troops to Teachers program, options for completing certification requirements, and other considerations regarding your career transition.

Exam Study Guides

In most cases, individuals seeking Florida certification must take three certification exams, Subject Area Exam (SAE), General Knowledge (GK) exam, and Professional Education (PEd) exam. The Florida Troops to Teachers office will provide information on obtaining study guides for the Florida Teacher Certification Exams (FTCE)

Degree Completion

For individuals who have not completed a bachelor’s degree but have completed a significant number of college credits (including military credits), the Troops to Teachers office also provides information on institutions that work well for individuals who are military or former military and are trying to obtain an initial bachelor’s degree.

Certification Profile

In most cases, Troops to Teachers program participants will qualify for the Temporary Certificate by taking the appropriate Subject Area Exam (option #3 for qualifying for the Temporary Certificate under the Florida Certification section) and qualify for the Professional Certificate by completing an Educator Preparation Institute (option #5 for qualifying for a Professional Certificate under the Florida Certification section). However, if you prefer to qualify for a Temporary Certification by completing the needed subject content courses, the Florida office will provide you with an unofficial Certification Profile, which outlines the specific course requirements you need to complete in order to qualify for the Florida Temporary Certificate as well as the Florida Professional Certificate. To receive your Certification Profile you may forward unofficial copies of your college transcripts, including ACE transcripts, to the Florida Troops to Teachers office by e-mail, mail, or fax.
