2012 Black History Month Celebration



Students dance at the Turlington for Black History Month
Employees of the Florida Department of Education heard the Ruediger Elementary Mathematical Drummers perform at the Department's 2012 Black History Month Celebration. Student groups from Bond Elementary, Florida A&M University Developmental Research School Jr.ROTC, and the Javacya Arts Conservatory all participated in Black History Month festivities at the Turlington Building.

"Black History Month is a time to celebrate the accomplishments of past generations," said Education Commissioner Gerard Robinson. " It is important that we engage our youth in the rich history of this great nation."

Also participating in the celebration was Florida Supreme Court Justice James E.C. Perry. Justice Perry spoke to the youth in attendance, telling students that their "only boundaries should be their dreams" while reflecting on his childhood.
