Polk School District Employee Wins National Farmworker Award
Nilda Soto, a 19-year employee with the Polk County School District, was recently named the winner of the Excellence Award from the Association of Farmworker Opportunity Programs (AFOP) during their national conference earlier this month in Arizona. As part of her job as a farmworker employment specialist, Soto assists participants with training, education and related support services such as healthcare and childcare, legal and immigration issues, emergency assistance and translations. She also counsels individuals regarding barriers to obtaining stable employment and assists in job placement.
