Florida Teacher of the Year Attends National Ceremony Honoring Educators
Jean Lamar, 2009 Florida Department of Education/Macyís Teacher of the Year, attended the Rose Garden Ceremony to honor the nationís top teachers. The White House ceremony on April 27, recognized the National Teacher of the Year and celebrated the service of teachers from across the nation. Lamar represented Florida well and although did not bring home top honors, she was able to meet President Barack Obama, U.S. Department of Education Secretary Arne Duncan and the Vice Presidentís wife, Dr. Jill Biden and was proud to represent Florida on a national stage.
Connecticut Anthony Mullen was announced as the National Teacher of the Year. The national program, sponsored by the ING Foundation, is a project of the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO). Mr. Mullen comes from a lifetime of service in the public sector, first as a New York City police officer and then, to further transform the fractured lives of young people in crisis, as a teacher and mentor of teenagers who truly need a second chance.
