Lyman High School Aerospace students won the 2008 No Boundaries National Competition, a USA TODAY education initiative in partnership with NASA which encourages students to explore future careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM). The competition encourages team-centered project-based learning and targets students in grades seven through 12.

As part of the award, Lyman High School team members, Marielean Gamboa, Jillybeth Burgado, Scott Scannell and Kaishon Knox and their teacher, Bill Yucius, will participate in a tour of the Kennedy Space Center facility and present their award-winning project to NASA staff. In addition, they have been invited to attend the STS-11 Space Shuttle Discovery launch. The team also won a cash prize for its outstanding project.
