Two Plant City Teachers Recognized for Excellence
Teachers Tecca Kilmer and Janice Rivers Lancaster were recently recognized for their work at Turkey Creek Middle School in Plant City. Kilmer, a physical education teacher, was named the Southern District and Florida Middle School Physical Education Teacher of the Year. Lancaster, a fine arts resource teacher, received the Florida Music Educators Association (FMEA) Leadership Award.
Ms. Kilmer will now compete as the National Teacher of the Year against the Western, Central, Northwest, Southwest, Eastern, and Midwest district winners at the National American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, Dance and Sport Convention in Dallas this April.
Ms. Lancaster began her career in Hillsborough County Public Schools in 1974 as a music teacher at Pinecrest Elementary School. In 2001, she became a Resource Teacher in the district’s elementary education department.
