Lee County Teacher Selected For Review Committee In International Baccalaureate Program

Fort Myers High School AP Calculus teacher Donna Sowers was recently selected to participate in the Group 5 (mathematics) curriculum review committee for the International Baccalaureate (IB) program. The Lee County teacher will travel to Cardiff, Wales, this fall to convene with the rest of the committee.

Every five years the IB math curriculum is reviewed by the Group 5 committee. The committee makes decisions on internal assessment, calculator usage, testing and other curriculum changes during the three-day work session. The review committee is comprised of highly-qualified and trained teachers from all over the world.

The IB program is now in 120 countries and in more than 1,500 schools. The goal of the program is to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.
