Sarasota Second Grader Wins 2007 River of Words Contest

Seven year old Jose Perez, from Fruitville Elementary School in Sarasota County, has won the poetry grand prize Category I, K-2, in the 2007 River of Words Contest.

In affiliation with The Library of Congress Center for the Book, River of Words conducts a free international poetry and art contest annually. The contest is designed to help youth explore the natural and cultural history of the place they live, and to express, through poetry and art, what they discover. Perez, the only winner from Florida, will recite his poem at the Library of Congress in Washington, DC.
