Hillsborough County Student Wins Chess Tournament

Logan McElvenny, a fourth-grader at FishHawk Creek Elementary School in Lithia, Fla., is the 2007 Florida State Scholastic chess champion. Logan placed first in his K-5 division, defeating 192 other fourth- and fifth-graders at the championship held in Miami this past March. Logan is a member of his school's chess team and has been representing Hillsborough County schools for two years by playing and competing in scholastic chess tournaments.

This victory earned him a spot at the Florida Invitation Superstars Tournament in Gainesville, May 18-20. In addition, Logan will compete at the 2007 National Elementary Chess Championship in Nashville.
