Polk Student and Administrator Recognized at National FFA Convention
A Polk County student and administrator were recognized during the 79th National Future Farmers of America (FFA)
Convention held in Indianapolis this fall. Lauren Lewis, a 2006 graduate of Haines City High, placed third nationally
in the public speaking event. She competed against 47 other speakers from across the country. She is currently serving
as the Florida FFA Area IV Vice President for the 2006-2007 school year before matriculating to Auburn University in
August 2007. David Byrd, a teacher resource specialist in the school district's agriscience and natural resources
department, was awarded the Honorary American FFA Degree at the convention. The award is given to administrators
advancing agricultural education and FFA through outstanding personal commitment.
