Welcome to the Success Measures web page. We understand that Florida's parents and students need an up-to-date resource for all their assessment questions.

Through the Success Measures website, parents, students, and teachers can access in-depth information about all of Florida's student assessments and learning standards in a timely and meaningful way.

Statewide Assessment Program

Why Did the FCAT Change?

The Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test®, which began for select grades in 1998, was administered to students in grades 3-11, approximately 200,000 students per grade. The FCAT measured the Sunshine State Standards in reading and mathematics (grades 3-10), science (grades 5, 8, and 11), and writing (grades 4, 8, and 10).

In the 2010-2011 school year, Florida's statewide assessments began measuring student understanding of the Next Generation Sunshine State Standards. Previous assessments measured student knowledge of the Sunshine State Standards. The Next Generation Sunshine State Standards were adopted in 2007 and developed by hundreds of educators from across the state. Educators have been using the Next Generation Sunshine State Standards in their classrooms since 2007.

Transition to Common Core State Standards

The Common Core State Standards Initiative is a state-led effort that established a single set of clear educational standards for kindergarten through 12th grade in English language arts and mathematics that states voluntarily adopt. The standards are clear and concise to ensure that parents, teachers, and students have a clear understanding of the expectations in reading, writing, speaking and listening, language, and mathematics in school.

With American students fully prepared for the future, our communities will be best positioned to compete successfully in the global economy. Forty-five states, the District of Columbia, four territories, and the Department of Defense Education Activity have adopted the Common Core State Standards.

In 2010, Florida adopted the Common Core State Standards in English Language Arts and Mathematics, which will impact the way children are taught, how they learn, and how they will be assessed. These standards will be fully implemented in the 2014-2015 school year. By understanding these standards now, parents can get a head start on paving the road to success. Planning and Standards Resources

Next Generation Sunshine State Standards (Common Core State Standards) are the standards and content being taught in our classrooms today. Florida Measures of Success

To learn more about the individual K12 assessments offered in Florida, visit the links below:
  • FCAT 2.0: The Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test® 2.0, which measures student success with the Next Generation Sunshine State Standards, includes assessments in reading (grades 3-10), mathematics (grades 3-8), and science (grades 5 and 8) in the 2011-2012 school year.

  • Florida End-of-Course Assessments: The Florida End-of-Course Assessments are computer-based tests designed to measure student achievement of the Next Generation Sunshine State Standards for specific middle- and high-school level courses, as outlined in their course descriptions. The Algebra 1 EOC Assessment was administered for the first time in May 2011; the Biology 1 and Geometry EOC Assessments were administered for the first time in May 2012; the U.S. History EOC Assessment will be administered for the first time in 2013; and the Civics EOC Assessment will be administered to seventh graders for the first time in 2014.

  • NAEP: The National Assessment of Educational Progress is a periodic national assessment of America's students in mathematics, reading, science, writing, the arts, civics, economics, geography, and U.S. history.
