The Florida Legislature passed groundbreaking legislation in 1997 establishing Florida Virtual School (FLVS) as a grant-based pilot project, pioneering Florida's first Internet-based, public high school. The school has grown phenomenally, from 77 semester enrollments in 1997 to over 259,928 semester enrollments in 2010-11. Today, FLVS is the largest and most successful state virtual school in the nation. It offers over 125+ middle and high school courses, from general education to Honors and Advanced Placement. The school's year-round, mastery-based education allows students to learn at any time, any place, any path, and any pace.
