The Florida Educator Accomplished Practices (FEAPs)

The Florida Educator Accomplished Practices (FEAPs) are Florida's core standards for effective educators and provide valuable guidance to Florida's public school educators and educator preparation programs throughout the state on what educators are expected to know and be able to do. The Educator Accomplished Practices are based upon three (3) foundational principles. Those principles focus on high expectations, knowledge of subject matter, and the standards of the profession. Each effective educator applies the foundational principles through six (6) Educator Accomplished Practices. Each of the practices is clearly defined to promote a common language and statewide understanding of the expectations for the quality of instruction and professional responsibility.

History of Floridaís Educator Accomplished Practices

The FEAPs were established in 1998 through State Board of Education Rule 6A-5.065. They were updated in December 2010 to reflect contemporary research on educational practice. The Educator Accomplished Practices serve as the state's standards for effective instructional practice and form the foundation for the state's teacher preparation programs, educator certification requirements and school district instructional personnel appraisal systems.

FEAPs Advisory Work Group

The Florida Educator Accomplished Practices (FEAPs) Advisory Work Group (Word, 57KB) provided extensive stakeholder input into the revision of the FEAPs. The workgroup was composed of teachers, teacher educators, and administrators and was responsible for preparing a revision of the FEAPs for presentation to the State Board of Education for adoption into State Board Rule in December 2010.

The FEAPs Advisory Work Group initially met on Thursday, July 22, 2010, in Orlando and worked throughout the summer to develop a draft of the revised FEAPs using the initial draft that the Commissionerís Teacher Task Force prepared in March. This second draft was based upon the Work Groupís review of the statewide feedback received via the Florida Department of Educationís website in response to the first draft, as well as upon current research and practices in classroom instruction and evaluation of instruction. The Department conducted a series of statewide rule development workshops in October for public input and feedback. Based on an analysis of public input, the FEAPs Advisory Work Group recommended a final draft of the new FEAPs for the Commissioner to present to the State Board of Education. The draft was approved with minor changes by the State Board of Education in December 2010.
