Newsweek Names Ten Florida High Schools to U.S. Top 100

- Florida public schools recognized as America's Best High Schools -

Tallahassee, Fla., June 27, 2012 - A national report card lists ten Florida high schools among the top 100 public high schools in the U.S., and two Florida schools are in the top ten. Created by Newsweek, the America's Best High Schools 2012 report card ranks the 1,000 best public high schools in the nation - the ones that have proven to be the most effective in turning out college-ready graduates. Florida has 69 in the top 1,000, with only California, New York, New Jersey and Texas having more.

"This is an incredible honor and I congratulate Florida's students, teachers, principals, superintendents and school boards for this great achievement," said Education Commissioner Gerard Robinson. "Florida's public education system is one of the best in the nation, and this report card bears that out."

The report card measures high schools based on six components: graduation rate (25 percent), college matriculation rate (25 percent), Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB), and Advanced International Certificate of Education (AICE) tests taken per student (25 percent), average SAT and ACT scores (10 percent), average AP, IB, and AICE scores (10 percent), and AP courses offered per student (5 percent).
