DOE Press Office
Department Media Alert: Correction of False Information Reported by Ft. Myers News PressThis alert is to correct inaccurate information published today by the Ft. Myers News-Press regarding FCAT scores. In both an editorial and news article the paper reported false information indicating that the Department has instructed districts to “throw out” 4th and 5th grade FCAT scores. This is entirely false. The Department has never instructed any school districts to discard any scores. At the request of school districts the Department has sought the services of two independent auditors to review the results. These auditors have begun their reviews. We are currently working with the News-Press to remove the false information and correct other inaccurate statements they have printed.
Please be assured that as we progress in this review process, any and all pertinent information will be communicated to you in a professional, accurate and timely manner. We have also created a web page (http://www.fldoe.org/schoolgrades.asp) that we will be updating regularly with information as it becomes available. Additionally, we always encourage you to reach out to us to verify any information you may have or may be unsure about. Your reporting is essential as we communicate important news to the public and we value your tireless efforts to ensure that reporting is 100 percent accurate. Thank you.
