Statement By: Education Commissioner Dr. Eric J. Smith Regarding Regarding 2010 3rd Grade Reading and Mathematics FCAT Results

“I would like to congratulate Florida’s teachers for their tremendous work this year and the outstanding commitment they have shown to their students. Because of their efforts, a greater percentage of our third-graders are reading at or above grade level compared to last year, and we have maintained the tremendous academic progress in math that our students have worked to achieve in recent years.

“This continued progress is a testament to the core values of our education system which are founded on ensuring every student has access to a high quality education. Given the proven dedication of our teachers, the unbridled spirit of our schools and our state’s overwhelming commitment to meaningful education reform, I have no doubt that we will continue to build on this progress and create a brighter future for every one of our children.”
