Statement By: Education Commissioner Dr. Eric J. Smith Regarding visit to Holmes Elementary School and Dr. Henry Mack/West Little River Elementary School in Dade County

“Today, I was able to join State Board of Education Chairman T. Willard Fair for a visit to two wonderful elementary schools in Miami. My stops at Holmes Elementary School and Dr. Henry Mack/West Little River Elementary School were very uplifting as I watched great instruction taking place and observed a strong commitment by staff to improving the academic performance of all students.

“I was especially impressed with the quality teaching I witnessed and the productive interactions that occurred between educators and students. It was clear to me that the district and state collaboration taking place locally is having a profound effect and I am confident that the release of school accountability reports later this year will bring great news for these schools and the fantastic staff working to make them a success.”
