Statement By: Education Commissioner Dr. Eric J. Smith Regarding Education Stakeholder Support for Race to the Top Competition
“For some time now I have been receiving letters of support from education stakeholders throughout the state, expressing their overwhelming endorsement of our efforts to win the federal Race to the Top competition. Each letter brings with it recognition of this incredible opportunity and a shared commitment to the future success of our children and our teachers.
“The most recent letter of support comes from members of the single largest child advocacy group in the state, the Florida PTA, who have clearly embraced this competition for the far-reaching benefits it will bring to our children. This letter, along with numerous others sent in by business leaders, universities and state colleges, children’s support organizations and other education stakeholders, sends a clear message that our state is ready to accelerate its efforts to bring a high quality education to every one of our students.
“I would like to extend my sincerest appreciation to all of the parties that continue to express their support for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and pledge to do all that I can to ensure Florida is a winner in this momentous race.”
