Statement By: Education Commissioner Dr. Eric J. Smith
~ Regarding the Federal Race to the Top Grant Announcement ~

“I was honored to represent Florida in today’s announcement by President Barack Obama and Education Secretary Arne Duncan regarding the availability of Race to the Top grants. Florida’s nationally recognized data collection system was highlighted as well as the unique ways in which this system has helped drive academic improvement in our state. In Florida, we pride ourselves on being on the cutting edge of education reform and innovation and I am excited about the opportunity we now have to compete for funding that will help us push our efforts even further.”
