Department of Education Honors Statewide Parent and Family Involvement Programs
~ Best practices for parental involvement recognized at conference ~
TARPON SPRINGS - The Florida Department of Education and the Florida Parent Teacher Association (PTA) recognized exemplary parent programs from throughout the state last week during the PTA’s annual Leadership Conference in Tarpon Springs. Education Commissioner Dr. Eric J. Smith was on hand to highlight the extraordinary efforts of PTA members and to focus on the shared mission of Florida’s parents and educators to prepare Florida’s next generation of leaders. The Parent Involvement Awards program offers an opportunity to recognize and share successful programs and best practices that can be implemented around the state.
“The success of our education system is reliant on the caring, thoughtful parents who continue to make our schools and their children’s education a top priority,” said Commissioner Smith. “This year’s winning programs showcase the creativity and passion we all have for the continued success of our students both in and out of the classroom.
The Parent Involvement Awards program recognizes various categories of family involvement including learning at home, parenting/nurturing, volunteering, community collaboration, communicating with the school, and policy making and advocacy.
