Macy’s is providing all television stations and newspapers across Florida, via satellite, a live feed to downlink video of the announcement of the 2010 Macy’s/Florida Department of Education Teacher of the Year Award.
72 school district winners from across the state were chosen from more than 180,000 public school teachers to compete for the award. That number was narrowed down to five finalists. The five finalists are Patricia Fairclough of Air Base Elementary School in Miami-Dade County; Megan Marie Allen of Cleveland Elementary School in Hillsborough County; Emily Barbacci of Lawton Chiles High School in Leon County; Melissa Reiker of Apopka High School in Orange County; and Marilynn Pedek of Suncoast Community High School in Palm Beach County.
One of these finalists will be named Florida’s top public school educator during an awards gala at Hard Rock Live at Universal Studios Orlando on July 9, 2009 at 6:30 p.m. The event will be hosted by Emmy Award-winning journalist, Deborah Norville.
