Teacher Appreciation Week Discounts Now Available
~ Nearly 50 businesses have extended special offers throughout the week as a thank you ~

TALLAHASSEE – State and national businesses are offering significant discounts and promotions to Florida teachers in celebration of National Teacher Appreciation Week, May 3-9. Throughout the week, nearly 50 companies across the state have extended special offers ranging from museum and hotel coupons to retail and restaurant discounts.

“Florida’s teachers deserve a thank you every day for the truly incredible work they do to inspire creative, young minds,” said Commissioner Dr. Eric J. Smith. “Many businesses understand the challenges that educators face, and as a special thank you, have offered many wonderful discounts for their commitment to enrich their student’s lives.”

Florida’s teacher appreciation discounts are available for viewing through the Department of Education’s Just for Teachers Web site, which was designed to provide teachers with valuable tools to help classroom instruction. The Web site features important information on other educational sites beneficial to all teachers and describes opportunities for professional development, as well as incentive programs offered throughout the state. Just for Teachers also issues a bi-monthly newsletter, sent via e-mail from Teacher Liaison Sheila Veatch, to keep Florida educators up-to-date on the latest state-level initiatives and programs.

“As the school year winds down, it’s important to acknowledge the appreciation we have for our teachers in a visible and tangible way,” said Public Schools Chancellor Dr. Frances Haithcock. “I’m thrilled so many businesses have taken the time to honor our talented educators by offering them special incentives for their wonderful work.”

Established in 1985 by the National Parent Teacher Association, Teacher Appreciation Week serves as an important reminder of how important teachers are to our children, our communities and our nation. Teacher Appreciation Week is celebrated nationally the first week in May each year.
