Department of Education Launches More Customer-Friendly Web Site
~ Streamlined layout and plain language provide customers with easier access to information ~
TALLAHASSEE - The Florida Department of Education today announced the launch of its newly redesigned Web site, www.fldoe.org. The new site features an improved navigational layout and enhanced search capabilities. Based primarily on customer feedback, the changes to the site allow users to quickly locate essential resources and content material. The Department’s Web site averages more than 30,000 views per day.
“The Department has a clear responsibility to provide its customers with easily accessible and up-to-date information on our services,” said Education Commissioner Eric J. Smith. “The redesign of our Web site is an important step toward fulfilling that obligation as we continue to enhance and expand our overall customer service efforts.”
The Web site improvement process began in January of 2007 and was conducted internally within the Department utilizing existing resources and personnel. Using a comprehensive online survey, more than 800 parents, educators, students and administrators highlighted several key areas they felt were in need of improvement. Examples of these areas included the overall organization and layout of information, search engine capabilities, broken links and applications, and outdated information.
As an integral part of the redesign process, the Department also reviewed all Web-related content to ensure the displayed information met the goals of Governor Crist’s Plain Language Initiative. Governor Crist established the Plain Language Initiative in his first executive order to ensure clear, common language is used in government documents and information is presented in a logical sequence.
