Florida Celebrates Teacher Appreciation Week

TALLAHASSEE — Governor Charlie Crist and Education Commissioner Jeanine Blomberg today announced that Teacher Appreciation Week will be held statewide May 6-12, 2007. Lieutenant Governor Jeff Kottkamp, Commissioner Blomberg, State Board of Education Member Donna Callaway, State Board of Education Member Phoebe Raulerson and K-12 Chancellor Cheri Pierson Yecke will participate in celebrations around the state to show appreciation for Florida's more than 180,000 teachers.

“Teacher Appreciation Week recognizes educators across the state for their ability to positively impact the lives of our children,” said Governor Crist. “The year round commitment of our teachers to their students is exemplified during this week long celebration.”

In addition, businesses throughout the state are offering special deals and discounts to Florida's teachers during Teacher Appreciation Week, as well as throughout the year. Please visit for more information.

"Florida teachers are some of the most dedicated and caring individuals in the state," said Commissioner Blomberg. "They work tirelessly to give our children the tools they need to succeed and should be commended for their extraordinary efforts.”

Each celebration venue will have events including pep rallies, student performances and comments by representatives of the Department of Education, as well as local education officials.
