Commissioner Winn to Visit Putnam County Schools

PUTNAM COUNTY — Education Commissioner John L. Winn on Monday will visit Robert H. Jenkins, Jr. Middle School in Palatka to meet with students and discuss the new major areas of interest available to ninth graders entering high school in 2007-2008. He will also visit the Community Life Center to meet with community leaders about preserving Central Academy Elementary/High School, where Commissioner Winn taught his first class. The school was accredited by the State of Florida in the 1920s and holds the distinction of being the first accredited black high school in the State of Florida.
