Statement by Education Commissioner John L. Winn Regarding Selection of State Board of Education Leadership

"I am looking forward to continuing to work closely with two outstanding State Board of Education members and leaders — T. Willard Fair and Phil Handy. They are both dedicated, visionary volunteers who have demonstrated their commitment to public education by volunteering a tremendous amount of their time to the service of our state.

The primary reason the board has been effective in setting high standards and promoting school improvement has been the positive way in which they have worked together. Their leadership has significantly contributed to the board's unified and unyielding commitment to providing the best education to all of Florida students and increasing the focus on reforms that benefit our struggling students."
