Great Florida Teach-in to Be Held in Tampa

The Great Florida Teach-in, a statewide teaching job fair sponsored by the Department of Education, will be held in Tampa beginning Wednesday. The Teach-In provides teacher candidates seeking employment in Florida with a convenient forum to obtain interviews with school and district personnel responsible for hiring teachers. Florida will need approximately 32,000 teachers next fall.

The Great Florida Teach-In will be held:

June 7 and 8, 2006
Tampa Convention Center
333 South Franklin Street
Tampa

Media availability will be at:

10:30 a.m.
Wednesday June 7, 2006
Tampa Convention Center Rotunda

Pam Stewart, Deputy Chancellor for Educator Quality, will be available for interview.

Last year, more than 3,000 prospective teachers registered to attend the Teach-In. So far this year, almost 1,700 teacher candidates have registered and the expectation is for a similar number to register on-site. Forty-two school districts will participate along with 19 charter schools and 17 colleges and universities from across the state.
