Education Commissioner to Visit James B. Sanderlin Elementary
ST. PETERSBURG Education Commissioner John L. Winn on Monday will visit James B. Sanderlin Elementary in St. Petersburg. As part of the Global Florida Classroom Connections program, Commissioner Winn will present students in Ms. Jordan's second grade class with books from their "sister classroom" located in the Bahamas.
Global Florida Classroom Connections is an international exchange program that uses technology to increase reading proficiency, raise awareness about the culture and history of other countries, and assist in developing teacher training programs.
Currently, three Florida schools are paired with three Bahamian schools. Each pair will form sister classrooms, sharing culture, educational concepts and technological innovation and strengthening reading skills. James B. Sanderlin Elementary is the first school to participate. The classes are swapping books with one another and will connect online later this year.
