Department of Education Announces Principal Leadership Award Winners

TALLAHASSEE — Education Commissioner John L. Winn last night announced the state winners of the 2005 Principal Achievement Award for Outstanding Leadership at the Commissioner's Summit for Principals in Ponte Vedra, Florida. Principal Achievement awards were given to one assistant principal and principal from each category level — elementary, middle and high school.

"I join with the state in congratulating all six recipients of the Principal Achievement Award," said Commissioner Winn. "The task of identifying winners in each category from the extraordinary nominees submitted was very challenging. All of the principals and assistant principals here tonight have made a difference in our classrooms and our communities. Their dedication is tremendously appreciated."

Award winners were selected from a group of 14 finalists from across the state. Each of the state winners was presented with a plaque and certificate and also received a check for $2,500 and $1,000 for their school.

The Department of Education is committed to improving our school system through the support of our educators and administrators. Seminars and summits expose teachers, administrators and school faculty to new ways of educating our students. The Commissioner's Summit for Principals, which started on Thursday, September 29 and will end today, allowed participants to share ideas and administrative practices used by education leaders from across the country in their own schools. The Summit is sponsored by the Florida Education Foundation, a not-for-profit charitable corporation promoting excellence for Florida's K-12 schools.
