Education Commissioner Winn Recognizes Outstanding School Volunteers

ORLANDO — Education Commissioner John L. Winn today recognized Florida's Outstanding School Volunteers at a luncheon in Orlando. Florida's 496,938 school volunteers donated over 18.6 million hours during the 2004-05 school year.

"It is a privilege to honor Florida's Outstanding School Volunteers," said Commissioner Winn. "They represent thousands of people throughout the state who work tirelessly for Florida's students. I applaud their efforts and thank them for making a difference in the lives of children."

School volunteers represent the five educational regions of the state and are from three age groups: youth, adult, and senior citizen. The award is presented annually to school volunteers who have shown outstanding dedication and commitment to quality education in Florida.
