MEMORANDUM
TO: Members of the Media
FROM: Vivian Myrtetus, Director of Communications
Earlier today, Education Commissioner John Winn sent a letter to Florida's Superintendents announcing which Districts were certified to offer Voluntary Prekindergarten in the 2005-2006 school year.
Florida has a unique opportunity to impact the lives of young children by preparing them for successful entry into kindergarten through quality Voluntary Prekindergarten programs. To meet the expectations of these children and their parents, local school districts that are in compliance with their class size reduction obligation should be given the option to decide whether to continue to provide these services through the new VPK program.
Commissioner Winn will be available via conference call from 11:45 to 12:15 today to discuss the class size reduction requirement and school district eligibility to provide Voluntary Prekindergarten for the 2005-06 school year.
Call in number: 850-414-1711
SunCom: 994-1711
Conference call time: 11:45 am to 12:15 p.m.
