Board of Governors Makes Appointments to University Boards of Trustees
TALLAHASSEE The Board of Governors announced their appointments to several University Boards of Trustees this morning. The Board of Governors is responsible for making two of the four appointments this year to each university's board of trustees.
To the University of Florida Board of Trustees:
Mrs. Joelen K. Merkel, Ocean Ridge, Consultant, News America Incorporated,
reappointed for a term ending January 6, 2010; and Mr. Courtney Cunningham,
Partner with May Dudley Maloy, LLC, appointed to replace Mr. Albert Thweatt,
for a term ending January 6, 2010.
To the Florida State University Board of Trustees:
Mr. Harold Knowles, Tallahassee, an attorney with the law firm, Knowles, Marks
and Randolph, reappointed for a term ending January 6, 2010; and Mr. Richard
C. McFarlain, Tallahassee, an attorney with the law firm, McFarlain & Cassedy,
P.A., appointed to replace Dr. J. Stanley Marshall who was appointed to the
Board of Governors, for a term ending January 6, 2010.
To the Florida A & M University Board of Trustees:
Dr. Regina Benjamin, Spanish Fort, Alabama, physician, Bayou La Batre Rural
Health Clinic, reappointed for a term ending January 6, 2010; and Mr. David
Griffin, Tallahassee, President, Griffin and Hart, LLC, appointed to replace
Mr. Randy Hanna, for a term ending January 6, 2010.
To the University of South Florida Board of Trustees:
Mrs. Sherrill M. Tomasino, Temple Terrace, Administrative Manager, Tomasino
& Associates, Inc., appointed to replace Mr. Steven Burton, for a term ending
January 6, 2010; and Mr. Robert Soran, Sarasota, President and COO, Uniroyal
Technology Corp., reappointed for a term ending January 6, 2010.
To the Florida Atlantic University Board of Trustees:
Mr. Norman Tripp, Ft. Lauderdale, an attorney with the law firm, Tripp Scott,
P.A., reappointed for a term ending January 6, 2010; Mr. David Feder, Boca Raton,
appointed to replace Rabbi Bruce Warshal, for a term ending January 6, 2010;
and Mr. Armand W. Grossman, Boca Raton, President and CEO, Clarity Education,
Inc., appointed to a vacant seat for a term ending January 6, 2006.
To the University of West Florida Board of Trustees:
Mr. Roy W. Smith, Jr., Pensacola, Retired Executive, Exxon Corp., reappointed
for a term ending January 6, 2010; Mr. Jarl T. Young, Pensacola, Regional Chief
Information Officer, Gulf Power Company, appointed to replace Mr. Eddie Phillips,
for a term ending January 6, 2010; and Mrs. Nancy G. Fetterman, Pensacola, homemaker,
appointed to a vacant seat for a term ending January 6, 2006.
To the University of Central Florida Board of Trustees:
Mr. Patrick T. Christiansen, Orlando, an attorney with the law firm, Akerman,
Senterfitt & Eidson, P.A., reappointed for a term ending January 6, 2010;
and Mr. Allen R. Weiss, Lake Buena Vista, President, Walt Disney World Resort,
appointed to replace Mr. Richard H. Lee, for a term ending January 6, 2010.
To the Florida International University Board of Trustees:
Ms. Betsy Atkins, Coral Gables, President and CEO, Baja LLC, a venture capital
firm, reappointed for a term ending January 6, 2010; and Mr. David R. Parker,
New York, Managing Director, The Archstone Partnerships, reappointed for a term
ending January 6, 2010.
To the University of North Florida Board of Trustees:
Mr. Luther Coggin, Jacksonville, Chairman, Coggin Automotive Group, reappointed
for a term ending January 6, 2010; and Mr. Steven T. Halverson, Jacksonville,
President and CEO, The Haskell Company, reappointed for a term ending January
6, 2010.
To the Florida Gulf Coast University Board of Trustees:
Mr. W. Bernard "Bernie" Lester, LaBelle, President and CEO, Alico,
Inc., reappointed for a term ending January 6, 2010; and Mr. David H. Lucas,
Ft. Myers, The Bonita Bay Group, reappointed for a term ending January 6, 2010.
To the New College of Florida Board of Trustees:
Mr. Raymond E. Mason, Jr., Osprey, Owner/President, Columbus Truck, reappointed
for a term ending January 6, 2010; and General Rolland Heiser, Sarasota, appointed
for a term ending January 6, 2010.
