Education Commissioner Winn Congratulates Community College Chancellor Armstrong on Distinguished Service Award

TALLAHASSEE — Education Commissioner John Winn today congratulated Community College and Workforce Education Chancellor David Armstrong on his recent "Distinguished Service Award" presented by the Florida Community College Activities Association (FCCAA).

The FCCAA Distinguished Service Award is given to deserving individuals who have provided significant leadership and service to the FCCAA Executive Committee and its many activities. The recipients of this prestigious award have worked in support of the Association and its goals to promote, coordinate, and regulate intercollegiate activities among Florida's community colleges.

"Student activities play an important part in a student's college experience and I commend Chancellor Armstrong and the Florida Community College Activities Association for its dedication to promoting intercollegiate activities." said Education Commissioner John Winn.

FCCAA Administrative Coordinator, Charles Smith added, "I can't think of anyone more deserving of this honor."

Dr. Aubrey Gardner, former Vice President for Instruction at South Florida Community College, was also awarded the "Distinguished Service Award" by the association.

The award, FCCAA's most prestigious, was presented last week in conjunction with the Florida Association of Community College's Annual Convention held in Tampa. The FCCAA coordinates and promotes intercollegiate activities including athletics, the Brain Bowl, forensics, music, student government, student publications, and theatre.
