Department of Education to Close Thursday Except for Essential Personnel

TALLAHASSEE — Following a decision this evening by Leon County government to close its offices tomorrow, Education Commissioner John Winn has announced the Department of Education’s Tallahassee offices will also be closed on Thursday, September 16. Vital personnel — including employees working on hurricane recovery efforts, communications, and technology support for hurricane recovery — are expected to report for duty.

Florida A&M University, Florida State University, FSU and FAMU lab schools, as well as Tallahassee Community College have also made decisions this evening to close tomorrow. Earlier today, Leon County Public Schools announced plans to close on Thursday, September 16.
