Governor Bush Kicks off Sales Tax Holiday With Just Read, Florida! Partnership Book Drive
Books-A-Million, Outback Steakhouse, Carrabba's Italian Grill, Winn Dixie help with book donations for schools

TALLAHASSEE — Governor Jeb Bush today announced a partnership between Just Read, Florida! and several corporations to establish a statewide book drive during Florida's sales tax holiday. Just Read, Florida! is working with Books-A-Million, Outback Steakhouse, Carrabba's Italian Grill, Winn Dixie, Barnes and Noble, the Florida Chamber of Commerce and the Florida Retail Federation to promote reading.

"I encourage all Floridians to take advantage of this year's tax-free holiday on books, especially students as they prepare to go back to school," said Governor Bush. "The book drive sponsored by Florida's corporate citizens makes this tax-free holiday especially important and benefits Florida students and schools around the state. I applaud our partners in this effort and encourage more of Florida's business community to get involved and support the state's commitment to rising student achievement in our schools."

Floridians around the state can use Florida's sales tax holiday to benefit education by donating books to all Books-A-Million, Outback Steakhouse and Carrabba's Italian Grill locations around the state. Winn Dixie will also kick-off the book drive in eight South Florida stores in Sunrise, Tamarac, Lauderhill, Plantation, Weston, Davie, Miramar and Pembroke Pines. Citizens in the Miami area can donate books to the Barnes & Nobles store in West Kendall.

In the spirit of reading, Books-A-Million has already pledged 2,000 books to Just Read, Florida! for schools, school media centers and reading programs in Florida. All Florida store locations will feature reading tables with selections from the Just Read, Florida! recommended reading list at all.

Also participating in the reading promotion are the Florida Chamber of Commerce and the Florida Retail Federation. The Florida Sales Tax Holiday runs July 24 - August 1, 2004. All books under $50 are tax-free during the week.
