Education Commissioner Horne to Encourage Business Leaders to Participate in Governor Bush's One Book, One Community Initiative
ORMOND BEACH Education Commissioner Jim Horne will address the Ormond Beach Chamber of Commerce during their annual banquet tonight, as they kick off their One Book, One Community campaign. Governor Jeb Bush wrote to local officials this fall and asked them to establish One Book, One Community programs aimed at establishing reading as a core value, the number-one goal of his administration. Commissioner Horne will encourage community and business leaders to participate in the project.

One Book, One Community-Ormond Beach is a new, joint effort of the Ormond Beach Chamber of Commerce and the City of Ormond Beach. Mayor Fred Costello will proclaim the project, whose main goals are to promote reading, spark discussion about Ormond's rich history and build community pride.
The book selected, The Mystery at Hotel Ormond, by local author Marian Strong
Tomblin, will provide a means of presenting local history to our youth and encouraging
conversation between the generations. Readers, especially middle school-aged,
will be drawn into the tale of a 14-year-old heroine's efforts to solve a family
mystery. The story is infused with an appreciation for local history.
