State Board of Education will meet April 15 in Tallahassee
TALLAHASSEE The State Board of Education will meet Tuesday, April 15 in Tallahassee to hold a board meeting and conduct a workshop at the Florida Department of Education's Turlington Building, 325 W. Gaines St., Room 1703/1707. The board meeting will begin at 9 a.m., and the workshop will begin at 4 p.m.
At Tuesday's meeting, the State Board of Education will consider recommendations from Education Commissioner Jim Horne on the request for new baccalaureate degree programs in nursing and in project and acquisitions management at Okaloosa-Walton Community College.
The Board will also act on the recommendations of the Charter School Appeal Commission regarding charter school applications from Bradford County and Bay County.
Information on these recommendations and other meeting materials will be available Friday on the Florida Department of Education's Web site, www.fldoe.org.
At the workshop, the Board will discuss Florida's system of assessment and accountability.
Topics include:
- A historical overview of Florida's school improvement and accountability
system.
- The development of the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test.
- Reporting and using achievement results.
- Assistance and resources to improve achievement.
