Florida Community College System names 2003 All-Florida Academic Team
TALLAHASEE – Florida Community College Chancellor J. David Armstrong, Jr. announced today the 2003 All-Florida Academic Team. The 118 students were nominated for their academic excellence by their public and private community colleges. They all have been named to the national USA Today/Phi Theta Kappa All-USA Academic Team.
"I want to congratulate this outstanding group of students on being named to the 2003 All-Florida Academic Team," said Gov. Jeb Bush. " Each one of these 118 students has demonstrated a commitment to academic excellence that will truly pay dividends for the rest of their lives. Their achievements and today's Academic Team announcement serve as testament to the strength of Florida's Community College System."
The All-Florida Academic Team will attend a series of events March 26-27 in Tallahassee, including a visit to the Legislature and a special honors program and luncheon to highlight their achievements.
"These students represent some of the best and brightest students in Florida," said Armstrong. "Their individual stories about their academic aspirations and what it has taken to achieve them are a testament to their commitment to improving their knowledge and life opportunities through education."
In nominating students, community colleges considered participation in honors programs; membership in academic or technical honors organizations; awards and honors received for academic or technical honors organizations; awards and honors received for academic and technical accomplishments; academic enrichment achieved through academic study and internships; and sharing of academic attainments, knowledge, skills and cultural enrichment. Team members will receive Phi Theta Kappa medallions and certificates.
A list of the 2003 Team is attached and posted to the Web site www.dcc.firn.edu.
The Florida Community College System, Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society and Variable Annuity Life Insurance Company will host this year's event.
