Florida Student Association Honors Secretary Jim Horne for Distinguished Service
The Florida Student Association (FSA) today recognized Florida Board of Education Secretary Jim Horne with its Distinguished Service Award for his support of students and higher education.
Secretary Horne was one of three awardees chosen from among dozens of nominations submitted by elected officials, university representatives, students, and others from the university system. In addition, FSA presented the Lifetime Achievement Award to the Honorable Reubin O'D. Askew, former Governor of Florida.
Secretary Horne was nominated by the University of North Florida Student Government, UNF Student Body President Lindsay Hodges and Chairman of the Florida University Board of Trustees, John Thrasher.
"Secretary Horne exemplifies one of the most important characteristics of a leader, and that is passion," Mr. Thrasher said in his remarks. "He has a passion for education and students and he conveys that every day as Secretary."
Others receiving FSA Distinguished Services Awards today were: Honorable David Mealor, Florida House of Representatives Dr. Frederick Humphries, President and CEO of the National Association for Equal Opportunity in Higher Education and former president of Florida A&M University.
