Jim Horne, Secretary of the Florida Board of Education, issued the following statement today upon being notified of the death of Sue Young, wife of University of Florida President Charles Young:
"Florida's education community is a close-knit family that will show its compassion and caring for the family of Sue Young during this time of sorrow. On behalf of the Florida Board of Education, I extend our thoughts and prayers to University of Florida President Charles Young."
In addition, Florida Governor Jeb Bush issued the following statement:
"I am greatly saddened by the news of the death of Sue Young, wife of University of Florida President Charles Young. Sue's passionate dedication and commitment to the improvement of higher education in Florida and to the well being of the university's students and faculty members will be sorely missed.
"Our prayers and sympathies go out to her family, especially to her husband Charles, her son Charles Jr. and her daughter Elizabeth."
Arrangements are as follows:
Services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 3, 2001 in Thousand
Oaks, California
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to acknowledge her life are encouraged to make a donation to scholarship funds established in her name through the University of Florida Foundation and the UCLA Foundation
