First and Second Teams Announced!

2009 All-Florida Academic Team

The Florida College System is pleased to announce the 2009 Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) All-Florida Academic Team. This year’s team includes 92 students which represent Florida’s state, community and junior colleges, one independent college and one independent university.

Each year, a PTK All-Florida Academic Team is named to recognize outstanding students. This year the luncheon and awards ceremony will be held at the Florida State University Center Club Ballroom on April 2, 2009, from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. A tour of the Capitol will follow at 2:30 p.m. The team will be recognized by the Florida Legislature and other state leaders. Invitations were mailed directly to college presidents and emails have been sent to nominees, advisors and administrators.

To RSVP, students must complete the registration form at http://data.fldoe.org/register/ptk/ceremony/ by Monday, March 9, 2009, even if they do not plan to participate.

A block of rooms has been reserved for the evening of April 1, 2009, at the La Quinta Tallahassee South (full information on our website) under the group name of Phi Theta Kappa. Hotel reservations also need to be made by Monday, March 9, 2009.

Sponsors for this year’s event include the Florida Association of Community Colleges and the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Florida Region. We are grateful for their active support of our students.

Additionally, The Florida College System would like to recognize two PTK advisors who were chosen to receive scholarships to attend the Phi Theta Kappa 2009 International Convention in Texas. Those advisors are: Jana Bielicki (Hillsborough Community College) and Shelby Fiorentino (Valencia Community College). Congratulations to them!

Admissions Directors Invited to All-Florida Academic Team Event

Representatives from four-year state, community and junior college baccalaureate programs, state universities, and private institutions are invited to participate in the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) All-Florida Academic Team event on Thursday, April 2, 2009, in Tallahassee. During the “College and University Fair,” students can meet with admissions representatives to learn more about the admissions process, programs of study, and potential scholarships. Students will also learn about the many academic, social, study abroad, and community service opportunities available to those who transfer to a college or university in Florida. We are excited to have these representatives join us for this special event!
