Effective: November 24, 2002
Revised: September 15, 2002
For your convenience, the code tables listed in this appendix are maintained at the Northwest Regional Data Center (NWRDC) by either FIRN or the Division of Public Schools (DPS). When the dataset name for the file contains the letters 'Yyear' replace the 'year' with the current school year. For example, in item 1 below, DPS.DISTRICT.G4.F25031.Y9495 would be the 1994-1995 file while DPS.DISTRICT.G4.F25031.Y9596 would contain data for 1995-1996.
| 1. | Division of Public Schools Files: Master School ID (MSID) File, Course File, Vocational Course File and Private Schools File |
| The Division of Public Schools (DPS) Files: Master School ID (MSID) File contains names, numbers, and other useful information on Florida PK-12 public schools. A sequential copy of this file has been made available as dataset DPS.DISTRICT.G4.F25031.Yyear. Note that the unique identifier for a school consists of two fields: District Number and School Number. Thus, the unique identifier for a school is 6 characters in length.
This dataset has a record length of 497 characters. Institutions able to use FTP can retrieve a copy of this file from NWRDC using the file transfer examples presented in Appendix E as a guide. In addition, any institution can use the JCL below to have this file routed to their local PUNCH queue as a set of 80 character records. To reconstitute the original file, get a copy of program SRTS497 from dataset FRN.DISTRICT.SOURCE, as shown in Appendix F. Compile this ANSI Standard COBOL program at your site and give it the 80 character file as input. The output will be the Master School ID File in its original format. Make the following replacements before submitting this JCL: acct - the user's logon id at NWRDC //acctRJE JOB (acct,,,99,9999),'user name',TIME=(,9)
Other available files are: As explained in Chapter 12, the format for this dataset and other DOE datasets can be downloaded from partitioned dataset DPS.DISTRICT.FORMAT.Yyear(member name F25031), stored at NWRDC. Alternately, the format and the data may be downloaded using Internet FTP as documented in Chapter X. |
|
| 2. | FICE Codes |
| A table of FICE codes is stored at NWRDC as a dataset named DPS.DISTRICT.GU.F61444.Yyear. This dataset has a record length of 80 characters and can be downloaded in the same way that programs are retrieved from FRN.DISTRICT.SOURCE. The format for this dataset is also stored on partitioned dataset DPS.DISTRICT.FORMAT.Yyear (member name F61444), at NWRDC.
Those users who are interested in a FICE code listing which provides the institution’s address and various codes including IPEDS and Carnegie, may prefer to download the FICE code table maintained by the Board of Regents. This is stored at NWRDC as a dataset named BOR.XREF.IPEDS.LASTINST. This dataset has a record length of 180 characters and can be downloaded using utility programs FIRNU001 and FIRNU002 or using Internet FTP as described in Chapter X. The format for this dataset is also stored on dataset FRN.XREF.BOR.IPEDS.LASTINST, also at NWRDC. More detailed data regarding institutions (phone numbers, contacts) may be found in BOR.XREF.IPEDS.ICyear. The format can be found in FRN.XREF.BOR.IPEDS.ICyear. |
|

State names are stored in 20-byte fields beginning in column 6. | |
| 4. | Foreign Country and U.S. Territory Codes |
| A table of foreign country and United States territory codes is stored at NWRDC as a dataset named FRN.DISTRICT.COUNTRY. These codes are used in the interdistrict and secondary to postsecondary record formats. Like the state and FICE code datasets above, this file has a record length of 80 characters, and can be downloaded in the same way. Foreign country and territory codes are 2-byte fields that begin in column 1. Country and territory names are stored in 30-byte fields beginning in column 6. | |
| 5. | Code List for Florida Postsecondary Public and Non-Public Institutions |
| This table of codes is stored at NWRDC as a dataset named FRN.DISTRICT.POSTSEC. Each record is 80 characters long and can be downloaded in the same way that programs are retrieved from FRN.DISTRICT.SOURCE. The institution code is a 4-byte field beginning in column 1. A 25-byte short name is found in columns 6-30. The long name for the institution is 40 bytes beginning in column 32 and going through column 71. In-state community college codes range from C901 through C928, in-state university codes range from U970 through U979 and in-state private postsecondary institutions range from P001 through P999. | |
| 6. | International Standards Organization (ISO) Country Codes |
| A table of country codes used in the postsecondary transcript formats is stored at NWRDC as a dataset named FRN.DISTRICT.POSTSEC.COUNTRY. Like the state and FICE code datasets above, this file has a record length of 80 characters, and can be downloaded in the same way. The country codes are 2-byte fields that begin in column 1. Country names are stored in 30-byte fields beginning in column 11. | |
| 7. | Postsecondary Campus Codes |
| A table of campus codes used in referring to Florida postsecondary public institutions is stored at NWRDC as a dataset named FRN.DISTRICT.CAMPUS. Like the state and FICE code datasets above, this file has a record length of 80 characters, and can be downloaded in the same way. Columns 1 through 6 contain the institution's FICE Code followed by a 4-byte Campus Code in columns 7 through 10. The institution name is a 35-character field in columns 11 through 45. The campus name is also a 35-character field in columns 46 through 80. Codes are numeric, right-justified and zero-filled while names are left-justified, blank filled and in upper/lower case. | |
